UEP Faculty Event: Adapting Course Design for AI Challenges

This two-part course design retreat supports instructors across all disciplines in identifying and addressing a course challenge that is arising from emerging AI tools. In many courses, AI is calling into question traditional assessment practices; in others, it is reshaping the skills students need to succeed in the field. During the institute, you will redesign a targeted piece of your course to better respond to the realities of AI use in students’ academic work.

Three key outcomes of the institute:

  1. Identify a teaching challenge: Pinpoint one course component you want to revisit (often an assessment), clarify the learning goal it serves, and identify how AI is changing how students are learning, and how we measure what they’ve learned.

  2. Raise AI awareness: Explore how students are using AI and what that means for learning in your course, and see examples of how faculty are leveraging AI tools to support student learning and inform course design.

  3. Refresh and redesign: With structured work time and 1:1 support, redesign one targeted course component.  You might intentionally leverage AI as a tool for learning, or to design an AI-resistant assessment that makes key thinking practices visible.
