Beantown Showdown

Beantown Showdown

This event is for non-technical and technical students to develop solutions and solve business problems with blockchain, an emerging technology disrupting finance, healthcare, and government.

  • This is a great opportunity to learn how emerging tech can solve real-world business problems!

  • No previous experience is required – just a desire to innovate, learn, and connect.

Sponsored by Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, Ripple, Aon, Brown Brothers Harriman, Deloitte, DTCC, Fidelity Investments, Fidelity Digital Assets, and FTI Consulting.

Hosted by the Boston Blockchain Association and Boston University Blockchain, the Showdown is a community effort by a constellation of government, university, and corporate sponsors that are upskilling students to solve pressing real-world problems through hands-on experience with emerging technology and connecting university populations and industry leaders.

The prize pool is $12,000 divided between the hackathon and business case competitions

  • Technology Hackathon: A 36-hour innovation competition where teams will collaborate to solve real-world problems, build blockchain solutions, and present their innovations to technical judges.

  • Business Case Competition: Teams will analyze a blockchain-based business case, craft a strategy, and present their solution to corporate partners.

Winning teams for each track will receive

  • First place: $3,000

  • Second place: $1,800

  • Third place: $1,200
