Dr. Jun Shimada is an experienced serial entrepreneur who has built technology platforms to tackle current problems in energy efficiency, finance, and pharma. His work has led to over $100MM in revenue and capital raises, as well as the creation of 100+ green jobs. In the area of energy efficiency, his work led to the first tariff-based program in New York State targeting load management of window air conditioners and other high energy consuming plug loads. In addition, he has forged innovative energy efficiency focused partnerships with large corporations, including Con Edison, Electrolux, LG, and Rakuten. For this work, Jun received numerous awards, including the Stars of Energy Efficiency award from the Alliance to Save Energy.
Prior to ThinkEco, Jun was a founding team member of the biotech start-up Vitae Pharmaceuticals from seed to Series B funding. He led the R&D team that developed Vitae’s proprietary computational drug discovery platform, which played an important role in securing Vitae’s first commercialization deal with GSK.
Recently, Jun was named a 2023 Founder Fellow by the New York City’s Economic Development Corporation for his work with clean air hardware innovator FutureAir. Beyond business, his long-standing interest lies in the physics of complex systems and has authored articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals over the last two decades. Jun has a BA, MA and PhD from Harvard University and a Graduate Certificate in Machine Learning from Stanford University.
